Fall Dinner & Business Meeting

2080 Henderson Mill Rd, Atlanta GA  30345
(770) 938-3960
The Republic's 2008 Fall Dinner & Business Meeting
The Republic typically holds two business meetings a year, one in the spring and one in the fall, to set the chapter's course for the following six months.  At this meeting, we'll be making specific plans for chapter activities from December through next May.  Members who wish to be more involved in the Republic's operations are especially encouraged to attend.  As always, the Republic's many friends and guests are invited to join us.

This time, we'll be gathering for dinner at the brand new Stevi B's Pizza Buffet Restaurant in the Briarcliff Village Shopping Center at the intersection of Henderson Mill, Lavista and Briarcliff Roads near Northlake Mall in Atlanta.  Stevi B's Ultimate Pizza Buffet includes all of your favorites and many original Stevi B’s creations, too.  Don’t see what you're looking for on the buffet?  Tell any Stevi B’s team member what you'd like on your pizza and they'll custom make it and deliver it straight to your table.  You can choose from any of their fresh toppings to create your own personal pizza masterpiece!  Visit their web site for more information on their complete menu.

We've booked their "party room" for our dinner meeting and each person will receive a 10% discount off their total meal purchase if we have at least ten people in attendance.

Please arrive no later than 7:00 p.m. so we'll know how many will be in our party.  The business meeting is scheduled to begin around 7:30 and will likely last between a half-hour to an hour.  This is your chance to give feedback on our recent events and activities and to make suggestions for where you'd like to go and what you'd like to do as a member of the Republic in the next six months, so please make plans to attend!

Host needed for Christmas Party
The USS Republic needs someone to host our annual Christmas party on Sunday, December 20.  ENS2 Mark A. Watts' busy holiday schedule, the date of this year's party cannot be changed.  If you or someone you know would be interested in hosting this year's Christmas Party on Sunday, December 20, please contact the Captain as soon as possible.
Visit the USS Republic Forums web site
Thanks to the efforts of Ens Drew Schlosser, the USS Republic's Forums web site is an online community where our membership can log in, create a variety of topics for discussion, post messages and announcements and, best of all, not have such messages emailed to every member subscribed to our members-only YahooGroups message board!  All members are encouraged to visit the site, register and get the discussions going!  And be sure to thank Ens Drew Schlosser for his excellent work!  The Forums web site can be found at www.ussrepublic.info!

Watts and ENS1 Michael Shipley, members of the 100-voice Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus, will perform in December Detours: An Around the Globe Musical Celebration on Friday and Saturday, December 11-12, at the historic Cathedral of St. Philip in Buckhead.  You don’t want to miss this annual holiday getaway, hailed by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution as a "weekend best pick"!  Click here for more information.  A 10% group discount is available to the Republic if 10 or more members would like to attend... contact the Captain if you're interested!

Gene Roddenberry to Be Inducted into TV Hall of Fame
by TrekMovie.com Staff
The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences never saw fit to award Gene Roddenberry an Emmy (even though he was nominated twice), but in January they will make up for it by inducting the creator of Star Trek into the TV Hall of Fame.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences’ Hall of Fame Committee has selected seven TV veterans for induction at a ceremony onWednesday, Jan. 20, at the Beverly Hills Hotel.  In addition to Roddenberry, the new inductees are actress Candice Bergen, art director Charles Lisanby, announcer Don Pardo, actor/comedians Tom and Dick Smothers and game show producer Bob Stewart.

In a statement, Television Academy Chairman/CEO John Shaffner said of the inductees: "Each year, the Television Academy has the privilege of honoring television greats that have contributed to the development and success of this ever-evolving medium.  This year’s inductees have challenged and shaped popular culture, changed television for the better and entertained us royally while doing so.  We are very pleased to be able to induct them into the Hall of Fame for their many achievements."

The statement also included the following profile of Gene Roddenberry: "The legacy of two-time Primetime Emmy Award-nominee Gene Roddenberry continues to flourish as the Star Trek franchise he created has reached 10 theatrical movies, seven television series and numerous merchandising and ancillary businesses—all of which maintain the late producer’s vision of the future.  Often affectionately referred to as the 'Great Bird of the Galaxy,' Roddenberry led a life as colorful and exciting as almost any high adventure fiction.  It wasn’t until 1966, when Roddenberry created and produced the original Star Trek, that he found his voice in Hollywood.  Once Star Trek debuted on television, it developed a loyal following as fanatical viewers grew to love the Starship Enterprise and its crew.  Roddenberry served as a decorated Second Lieutenant during World War II, receiving the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal.
